W/b 19th October - Week 8
Dear parents and carers,
We are starting our History topic, Invaders and Settlers, during our English and History lessons this week by beginning with the Celts. Due to current restrictions our trip to the Verulamium has been cancelled, however we are fortunate enough to be able to participate in an online workshop later this week to introduce the children to Boudicca and the Roman Empire. In maths we will be focusing on subtracting a 2-digit number from a 3-digit number and completing our work on addition and subtraction before moving on to look at our 3 times tables. This is so that we will be ready to start our unit of work on multiplication and division after half term. This week in Science we will be investigating different types of soils. In RE we will be answering the question ‘How did Jonah and Daniel respond to God?’ The children will be describing the similarities and differences between the ways Jonah and Daniel reacted to God’s call.
We would like the children to complete the following homework this week and over half term:
- Reading every evening and recording this in their Home School Diary. This can be recorded by you or your child.
- There will be no new spellings set this week. Please review your child’s spelling tests from this half term with your child and spend some time learning any they are still unsure of, particularly those on word list 3A which will be tested later this week.
- Maths – complete both sides of the 3 X tables work sheet and spend time on Times Tables Rock Stars practicing the 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables. We will hopefully be involved in a ‘Battle’ against other schools after half term so this is a perfect time for the children to familiarise themselves with this system and get practicing. If you are having any issues accessing TTRS please email the Year 3 email address and let us know. Please return the 3 X tables sheet to school in your child’s homework folder on the first Monday back after half term (2nd November).
