Parent weekly letter – Year 2

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for all your gifts for Harvest. The children enjoyed watching a virtual Harvest Service from Rev. Tim that was filmed at Holy Trinity.

Homework

English: This week we have been practising writing recounts using time conjunctions. Please support your child to write about one of their days at the weekend using a variety of time conjunctions.

Maths: We have been practising subtracting by counting forwards and backwards in 1s and 10s. Please practise counting forwards and backwards aloud from any given number to 100. Then practise writing numbers in sequence between 1 and 100.

Please support your child to practise counting backwards using the attached snakes and ladders board. This is game is played in a different way because the children should start at 100 and then work towards 1. So if they land on a ladder they go down and if they land on a snake they go up. The children should record each turn by writing number sentences.

For example: 94 – 6 = 88.

Spellings: Please complete the attached spelling sheet using the: Look, Say, Write, and Check method. The children will be tested on these words next Wednesday. We will continue to revise the common exception words for Year 1. Please keep the spelling sheets at home to continue learning the spellings. These are also used to reinforce correct letter formation.
