Year 1 Weekly Information Letter

Friday 12th November 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for helping your child complete their homework. It is important that the homework is a shared activity and that the homework is completed fully and handed in on Wednesday.

The children have had another great week of learning. We also marked Remembrance Day with a two minute silence. The children were reflective and beautifully silent and we were extremely proud of them.

Science

For our Science topic materials the children will be following on from classifying different materials to experimenting next week. They will be trying to predict and test to see which material is best for Traction Man’s waterproof jacket.

(Traction Man is the current our core text)

Reading

Please continue to listen to your child read every day and record this in their

Reading diary. Please remember that once your child is reading longer books, they do not need to complete the whole book in one go. We would expect the children to read for 10 minutes per day.

Maths

We will be continuing to look at addition and subtraction during our maths lessons. Please do talk to your child about the fact that we end up with less when we subtract, whilst when we add we end up with more. Any number games to support this learning would be helpful. There are a number addition and subtraction games on Busy Things. We would really like the children to play the ‘Number Jump’ game which is accessible through their My USO login.

INSET Day

A reminder that Friday 19th November the school is closed for an INSET Day.

Thank you for your continued support.
