LANGUAGES - FRENCH

At Archdeacon Cambridge’s CE Primary School, we use the National Curriculum as the starting point for all of our teaching in French. The French curriculum and skills progression for each year group was developed by the school teaching staff, allowing us to create links between subjects and inspiring our children to learn.

Our French curriculum between Year 2 and Year 6 looks to promote a love of language learning and a curiosity to explore the language and culture of French speaking countries. We seek to encourage the children to develop links in their understanding between English and French language and prepare them for language learning at KS3. Specifically, we look to develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing for meaningful communication, together with cultural understanding. Bi-lingual children are celebrated and encouraged to develop their individual literacy skills.

Our language lessons are enriched by engaging in such activities as cake making following a French recipe, cheese tasting, exploring traditional celebrations associated with the Christian calendar (Epiphany and the traditions of Les Santons), as well as  “French Day” which is a whole day immersed in the culture and language of France.
