Our Aims
Staff at Archdeacon Cambridge’s CE Primary School have worked together to produce a curriculum which is dynamic, broad, child centred, creative and exciting. Our curriculum intent is as follows:
We place our children at the centre of their learning. We recognise individuals’ potential in all aspects of school life, enabling the development of the whole child.
In our engaging, broad and balanced curriculum, knowledge and skills are interwoven, allowing children to develop strong knowledge frameworks. Our aim is for children to continue to develop as independent, confident, respectful and positive learners, aware of their own and others’ learning needs.
Our children develop a love of reading through a wide range of reading materials, seeing reading as the key to unlocking the curriculum. This enriches their vocabulary and allows for increased confidence and shared discussion across the wider curriculum.
We provide children with a variety of opportunities to develop fluency in the key mathematical concepts, to understand and explain their thinking and to apply their knowledge to problems so that all children aspire to be capable mathematicians.
Emotional well-being is at the heart of everything we do. We achieve this through acknowledging the external influences that may affect our children. We develop children’s sense of themselves as future global citizens, belonging to different communities, and their responsibilities with regard to valuing other children’s heritage and culture.
As a faith school, we have close links to the Holy Trinity Parish community. Through welcoming visitors and visiting other places of worship within our locality, we instil an understanding of and deep respect for the religions and beliefs within our community and throughout the world.
We consistently encourage respectful attitudes and actions within our supportive, Christian community. Our restorative culture allows children to take responsibility for their actions and helps them to realise that good choices lead to a happy community.
We support all members of our community to develop strategies for self-regulation and positive self-esteem. Parents’ involvement in their children’s learning and development allows us foster strong relationships between home, school and the wider community.
At Archdeacon Cambridge’s CE Primary School we recognise that children need a curriculum that is broader than that identified by the National Curriculum. As a Church of England School, Religious Education sits at the heart of all learning, with worship incorporating the National Society’s Christian Values. We also ensure that learning opportunities are planned which include aspects of globalisation, environmental learning, sustainability, local community responsibility and enterprise and the core British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.
School Structure
Our teaching and learning includes all statutory areas of the curriculum. Whether teaching in Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 teachers strive to plan lessons, activities, visitors and trips which stimulate curiosity, engage interest and make lessons enjoyable. The curriculum for each of the stages provides a balance appropriate to the child’s age.
