Dear Parents and Carers

We hope you had a wonderful Easter break. The children have enjoyed telling us about all of the fun they have had over the holidays. Please see information below to help you support your child’s learning at home.

Reading

Please continue to hear your child read daily, making a brief note in their reading diary. Remember to ask comprehension questions to your children, this is important to check that they are reading for meaning. As well as listening to your child read, encourage them to read independently on occasion and tell you about what they have read.

Topic

Our Science topic this term is Plants and growing. Children will be planting a variety of plants and studying them during this half term. Our core text for this term is ‘The Secret Sky Garden’ by Linda Sarah and Fiona Lumbers. This is a lovely book and the children have enjoyed the story so far.

Maths

The children will be using their knowledge of 2s, 5s and 10s to group and also to share. These are the building blocks for early multiplication and division.

Homework

For homework this week, we would like the children to complete a reading comprehension activity. We have put the sheet into your child’s homework folder.

For maths homework there is a game on Busy things called ‘Monkey Stacks’. This is a great game to consolidate your child’s understanding of counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Swimming

Year 1 enjoyed swimming today. It was great to see how many of them have progressed since the Autumn term.
