Year 1 Weekly Information Letter
Friday 25th February
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope that you had a lovely half term. The children have come back reenergised and full of enthusiasm. They have produced some fantastic writing about Bob, the character from our core text ‘Man on the Moon’. We have been very pleased with their positive attitudes to learning.
Please find some information to help support your child over the next week.
Reading
Next week we will be assessing the children on their high frequency word recognition. Therefore we will not read individually with your child but will change reading books as normal.
Book Week
For Book Week the whole school will be looking at the book Ruby’s Worry.
We will be making worry dolls, painting worry and happy paintings and writing about what makes us happy. We are lucky to have the illustrator Magenta Fox coming into school to meet the children on Monday.
On Friday 4th March the children are allowed to come into school dressed in an outfit that makes them happy. We will still have PE on this day, so please ensure your child has appropriate footwear on.
Maths
The children will be learning to recognise numbers to 50. They will count forwards and backwards using numbers to 50 and consolidate their knowledge of tens and ones to solve number problems.
PE
For outdoor PE Year 1 will continue to practise their ball skills using their hands to control and send the ball. The children will be learning to put together routines in Gymnastics using the balances, jumps and shapes they know.
Homework
This week, in the homework folders there is a sheet for the children to write about what their favourite book is and why. Please help your child to complete this.
