Year 1 Weekly Information Letter
17th September 2021
Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you to all the parents who came along to the Year 1 Curriculum Evening. We hope you found the information useful. If you were not able to attend, you should have received a pack of information in your child’s book bag. If you have not received one or you have any questions, please let us know. You can find the presentation on the Year 1 page of the school website.
The children loved making Windsocks and writing sentences about how they felt running outside with them. We are very impressed with how well they are settling in to Year 1.
Please find information below to help you support your child at home and prepare for next week.
English
Next week, as part of our core text “Here We Are” the children will be celebrating their heritage and how we are all wonderfully unique. The children will be writing about themselves and places which are important to them. Please discuss with your child any significant family places so that they can write about them in school.
In phonics, we will continue to recap Phase 3 sounds.
The handwriting booklet is for you to work through at home during the next few months. We will be working on different handwriting activities in school.
Reading
As mentioned at the Curriculum Evening, it is important that your child is read with each day at home. This has a huge impact on their fluency, confidence and understanding. Please write a comment in your child’s Reading Diary and ensure that your child brings their book and diary in to school with them every day.
Maths
Next week, we will continue our focus on more and less. We will also be learning about the symbols for greater than > less than < equals (same as) =.
We hope you have a restful weekend, thank you for your continued support.
