Home Learning : Week beginning Monday 11th May 2020

Update – Thursday 7th May 2020

Dear everyone,

We hope you have had a lovely week and have enjoyed the beautiful weather. Enjoy VE Day, remember to upload pictures of any VE day activities you complete. We would love to see them. We are still missing you all so much and are so proud of the work you are doing whilst learning from home. Thank you so much for all of the wonderful pictures of your Home Learning activities this week, we’ve loved seeing you work so hard and complete so many activities. Please continue to upload work regularly throughout the week, as this allows us to give ongoing feedback. Many thanks. If you have any problems please contact us through the Year 2 email.

This week we will continue to explore our topic of ‘Living things and their habitats’. We will continue to read ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’ by Jill Tomlinson. If you do not have access to a copy of the book we have put the chapters you need to read in the English PowerPoint alongside the activities.

In Maths we will continue to look at ‘Measures’ with a specific focus on ‘time’. Before we left school children took home with them their flower clocks, they might want to use them to help with this weeks activities. When learning the time children have only learnt how to tell the time past the hour. For example 40 minutes past 8 rather than 20 minutes to 9. The children have learnt this to   help them make the link with reading the time on digital clocks. In Year 2 children have also learnt that there are 2 of the same time each day so an 8 o’clock in the morning (am) and an 8 o’clock in the evening (pm). Please continue to consolidate this learning when completing the activities this week.

In RE we will continue to look at the ‘Five pillars of Islam’ and will concentrate on the third pillar: Sawm which focuses on fasting and Ramadan. Ramadan is being observed by Muslims all over the world at the moment. The clip we have included in the Power point shows how Muslims have had to adapt how they keep Ramadan due to the Coronavirus.

We have also included some other activities for you to complete this week across a range of other subjects.

We are missing you all so much and can’t wait to see you all. Stay safe and have fun,

Miss Nichols, Mrs Patterson and Mrs Renahan
