Weds 24th Feb update:

ART ACTIVITY - RETURNING TO SCHOOL

A message from Miss Cliffe:

We are looking forward to the children's return and to celebrate this, we will be putting together an installation of children's artwork to welcome them back. We would like children to draw a portrait of themselves on a piece of fabric provided by school. This should be completed in pencil and a permanent marker used to go over the lines. The style is a simple line drawing similar to the 'art tea towels' previously done by year groups. We would ask children to write just their first name on the front of the artwork.

Coloured fabric can be collected from boxes outside the gates. Each year group will have a particular colour; please ensure you take from the correct year group's box. We would ask for this to be dropped back into school via the provided box by Friday 26th February.

Welcome back Year 5!

We hope you have had a restful and happy half term break. We are looking forward to catching up with you this week and hearing what you have been up to!

Well done for all of your hard work last half term. We hope that home learning will be for only two more weeks before returning to school, but have been very impressed by your efforts and achievements while working from home- keep it up!

9am week day registrations

We will continue our 9am registrations on Teams this week. Please try to be prompt in attendance and ready for the school day ahead for these short morning sessions– they are an opportunity for us to share announcements and reminders, answer any questions about the day ahead and they give you the daily opportunity to see their peers.

Yr5 after school club - Monday's on Teams - 15:45 to 16:45

This week, we will be having our second Year 5 virtual after school club - all year 5 children are welcome.

You will need paper and something to write with.

To join the group, children will need to go into the team titled ‘Year 5’, NOT their class team (5M/5G) and join the same way they would join in the morning for registration by clicking ‘join'.

Friday- English

In addition to your Teams meetings with your class and groups, this week we will also assign you with a peer or small group of peers to share critical feedback on an English task from Thursday's lesson. We will message you on who is working with whom via Teams, later this week. This will involve you arranging a time for a short call to discuss each other's storyboards and offering peer feedback and support. What do you like about their storyboard? What could be improved? Does their storyboard plan meet the brief for the task as outlined in Thursday's lesson? Full details of what should be discussed are on Friday's English PowerPoint. You can arrange and agree the time for the call with your peer/s yourselves, however it must be between 9.30am and 3pm on Friday.

Reminder: Getting support online

We would like to remind all children and parents that a Year 5 class teacher is available to help with any questions or problems through the messaging service on Teams. Children can add a question to their class's main conversation or if they prefer, send a message directly to their teacher using the 'chat' tab on the left-hand side of Teams. Children, we know some of the tasks are challenging and we do not expect you to find everything straight forward! However, it is important that you develop your independence by trying your best and by asking questions when you need help.

If you do need teacher support with a question or are unsure of a task, please move on to the next task if you don’t get an immediate response, as we will get back to you as soon as we are available.

As a footnote to this, please remember to watch the various videos (e.g. Maths) and read through provided PowerPoints and PDFs before beginning a task. You are much more likely to understand what to do, enjoy the task and produce accurate work if you do so!

We hope that you all have a greatweek, any questions please contact us via the Y5 group email: year5@archdeaconcambridges.richmond.sch.uk

Best wishes,

The Y5 Team
