Year 1 Weekly Information Letter
8th October 2021
Dear Parents and Carers,
The children have had another busy week, working hard and engaging in their learning. Year 1 children have been very engaged by our new text ‘10 Things I Can do to Help My World’ by Melanie Walsh. In Maths, they have been learning how to partition numbers using the whole-part model. The school nurse administered the Flu nasal spray vaccination this week and Reverend Tim was back in school to deliver a Vicar’s assembly which was lovely for the children.
Reading
Next week, instead of reading, we will be undertaking phonics checks with your child. This will be the reading focus in school, please continue to read with your child daily. Reading books will be changed as normal. We will write some sounds your child needs to practise in their reading diary before half term.
Maths
We will practise working on the number bonds to 10 next week. We will also be encouraging the children to work systematically. This means children have an organised method to process and work in an order.
0+10=10
1+9=10
2+8=10
The children will also be learning about number fact families.
4+2=6
2+4+6
6=4+2
6=2+4
The game Hit the Button, on Topmarks maths, can be accessed through your child’s MyUSO login / Year 1 resources. Please play the game at home with your child to help consolidate number bonds to 10.

PE-Swimming
Next week will be the final swimming lesson. We have been so impressed with how the children have improved their water and stroke confidence. Please make sure your child wears their PE kit into school on Tuesdays and Fridays.
We hope you have a restful weekend, thank you for your continued support.
