Year 1 Weekly Information Letter
10th September 2021
Dear Parents and Carers
The children have had a great first full week back. We are so pleased with how they have all settled.
They are becoming more familiar with class routines and we have been impressed with all of their hard work and effort. This week’s highlights included, gymnastics and swimming, reading with every child, Monster points and the lovely sunshine.
Please find information below to help you support child at home and prepare for the next week.
PE
PE will take place on a Tuesday (gymnastics) and Friday (swimming). Please wear PE kit to school on these days. For now these lessons are taking place inside. When it does get colder your child may wish to wear tracksuit bottoms. Please avoid (if possible) shoes with laces if your child is unable to tie them independently.
English
We will continue with our core text “Here we Are” by Oliver Jeffers. The children will be writing a sentence to describe their feeling whilst outside. They will also work in groups to change some words to Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” and perform their own versions.
Maths
The focus will be on sequencing numbers by counting forwards and backwards. One more and one less with numbers to 10.
Reading
Next week our reading focus will be High Frequency Words (HFW) this will take place instead of individual reading. We will change reading books every Monday and Thursday, children will bring home 2 book on these days.
As we get back into the routine of reading regularly, some children may have lost some confidence. This can lead to children becoming more reluctant to read. Here are some ideas to engage them.
*Read less. One page is better than none.
*Take turns - read a page each with your child
*Choose a book which is less challenging to boost confidence.
Please continue to read with your child daily and remember to write a comment in the diary.
Notices
We hope you have a restful weekend, thank you for your support.
