Thank you to all members of the school community who gave so generously in the collections taken at the end of each of the Christmas Productions. A total of £1235 was raised for Great Ormond Street Hospital, the charity chosen by our School Council. Four children from Year 6 accompanied by Mrs Foster and Mrs Patterson on a visit to the Hospital to present the cheque.
Seventeen children accompanied staff and Governors to a special service at St Paul’s Cathedral which celebrated the retirement of the Bishop of London, the work of the London Diocesan Board and its community of Schools. Our school was represented with Readings from Mrs Foster and one of our pupils. It was an unforgettable experience for all those who took part.

On Wednesday 13th April, 91 choir children, plus staff and parents travelled to the Rose Theatre, Kingston for the annual Richmond Music Trust Singing Festival. Children were dressed in blue and white to suite the theme of ‘Out of the Blue’ and everyone travelled to the theatre by specially chartered double-decker buses. Our rehearsal started at 9am and the final concert was excellent. Ms Dallosso (Music Teacher) and the staff were very proud of the effort, commitment and enthusiasm shown by our children; they produced a top-quality performance of our chosen songs as well as the four massed songs, all in harmony with the other schools. Thanks to all the parents who were able to come along to the theatre and to the PTA for providing the wonderful transport.
We have some exciting news! Archdeacon Cambridge’s has now opened as a private LAMDA centre (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts). We will be holding Speech and Prose (poetry) examinations throughout the year and an external examiner from LAMDA will visit the school to examine the children and listen to their poem recitals. Our first examination date will be Friday 8th July. All children who attend the LAMDA club in the Upper Juniors will be given the opportunity to take examinations and there is a waiting list in the School Office as places are now full for this term.
This Summer our Year 5 will be participating in an ‘Out of this World’ educational project organised by the RHS Campaign for School Gardening partnered by the UK Space Agency. Two kilograms of rocket seeds accompanied by British ESA Astronaut Tim Peak on his six month Principia Mission aboard the International Space Station. After several months on board, the seeds landed safely back on Earth in Kazakhstan with Commander Scott Kelly of NASA and Russian Cosmonauts Mikhail Kornienko and Sergy Volkov of Roscosmos. Archdeacon Cambridge’s have now received two packets of 100 seeds to grow and compare and our findings will be uploaded onto a national online database so that results can be compared across all schools in the UK.
There was great excitement at the school on Friday 22nd April as Ben Smith, the marathon runner who is completing 401 marathons in 401 days, ran through the Infant and Junior playgrounds at lunch time greeting children. Ben started this project on September 1st 2015 and was running his 235th Marathon in Twickenham. He is hoping to raise £250,000 for two Charities, Stonewall and Kidscape; both work tirelessly to combat bullying in schools and society. Many children have commented that they also saw him being interviewed on television before the London Marathon on Sunday.
In order to encourage the use of the school library we have developed a reading challenge called the Compass Reading Challenge. The challenge is designed to encourage children to go on a reading adventure and try out different genre of books that they might not naturally read – e.g. stories set in other times, fantasy, or non-fiction. There are postcards for children to fill in to recommend books to friends and family or they can send the postcard to me in the library. A record sheet has been prepared for each child with space for a sticker for each book read. We shall issue certificates for children who complete the challenge by World Book Day.
