Weekly timetable WC 25.01.2021

Dear Year 5,

As another week of home school comes to a close, we want to say a massive well done for all your hard work. This week we have particularly enjoyed reading your Hatshepsut biographies and looking at your ancient Egypt timelines.

Registrations (every week day at 09:00 on Teams)

It has been great to seeing you all at our 09:00 morning registrations – these will continue next week. Be ready to join our meeting each day a few minutes before if possible. Important reminder: please do not start any meetings independently; wait for your teacher to do so.

Virtual assemblies

This week as well as more virtual lessons, we will be introducing virtual assemblies. Here is a link to the first one, from Miss Lambe: https://www.loom.com/share/b84747adf9f6458db17333347535b299

The week ahead

This week in Maths we will be starting our new unit on fractions. We will also continue to learn about Ancient Egypt in English, History and Computing! We will we will moving on to chapter 2 in our guided reading book - 'The Red Pyramid' by Rick Riordan. If you haven’t already finished reading chapter 1, please give this a go over the weekend. Please continue to upload the required pieces of work as highlighted on the timetable and we will comment on these on My USO.

Scratch account

For computing this week you will need a parent to create a free scratch account for you: https://scratch.mit.edu/

Mummifying Tomatoes!

This week one of our home learning activities involves mummifying a tomato! For this activity you will need the following:

  • 1 x plum tomato
  • Salt
  • Baking powder/bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 x knife
  • 2 x teaspoon
  • tissue or kitchen roll
  • A small 'burial chamber' (tupperware box?) - just somewhere to keep the tomato covered in salt.

Nessy

Some year 5 children recently received log in details for a programme called Nessy. If this applies to you it is recommended that you try to log in and work on Nessy approximately 3 times a week. If you are having any difficulties logging in, please get in touch.

J2Stars and Orange Tickets

This week J2 stars (similar to house points, but virtual) will be returning and we will be introducing orange tickets! With the majority of children learning online during January and February, Archdeacon is launching its new orange online ticket draw for years 1 - 6. Teachers will be issuing orange tickets according to our blue and golden ticket targets including working hard, showing good online behaviour and for online work produced. As usual we will have four winners from the draw each month who will receive a £5 book token.
