OUTDOOR LEARNING

Learning outdoors is part of childhood and remains as part of the curriculum throughout the school. In Foundation Stage the children have daily access to their own Wildlife Area as they choose activities to explore. Teachers plan for specific outdoor areas as a focus. The use of our Wildlife Area at the back of the school with its Stag Beetle Fortress, child friendly pond, outdoor classroom and specially designed habitats providing homes for a wide range of insects and other creatures, offers learning across all areas of the curriculum.

The area set aside for herbs and vegetables provides some produce for our school kitchen and also an opportunity for children to experience the whole cycle of food production through to consumption on a small scale.

We reuse and recycle whenever and wherever we can, giving children first hand experience of sustainability in action. All year groups use the Wildlife Area whether for Maths, RE, Science or as a stimulus for writing and contribute to the annual cycle of growing vegetables and plants.
