Place Value

In Year 4, before we begin any calculation work, the children need to gain an understanding of what each number in a four digit number represents. Addition and Subtraction

Children will use their strong understanding of place value to add and subtract two 4 digit numbers using exchanging.

We use concrete resources to physically show the children why an exchange is needed. Please see the video below for video aimed at Key Stage 2 children and their parents.
