Year 1 Weekly Information Letter

Friday 1st October

Dear Parents and Carers,

The children have had a fantastic week. We had a wonderful Harvest Festival service with Reverend Cara, the children sang beautifully. Thank you so much for being so generous in giving food and money to help Spear and the local foodbank. The children explored using question marks and worked together to think about and write big questions they have about the world. The monster shop was enjoyed by the children and was a roaring success. There will be many of these throughout the year so do not worry if your child was away on this day.

English

In English, we will be starting our new core text. ‘10 Things I can do to Help my World’ By Melanie Walsh, is a wonderful book which gives gentle reminders of the easy, everyday ways we can be kinder to the earth.

Maths

We will be introducing our focus on part-whole diagrams within 10. This will include number bonds to 10. Please encourage your child to practise this at home. Next week, we will be playing this game in class and it is helpful for the children to have a go at the game at home too if they can.

RE

We will be continuing our focus on Christianity and the Creation story. This week, we will be thinking of something that is special about our talk partners. They will write something which is good about them and learn about recognising the qualities of others.

PE

We will continue to do outdoor PE on Tuesday because the school nurse is using the small hall all day administering the nasal Flu vaccination.

Due to the colder weather you may wish to send your child in wearing tracksuit bottoms. The children will continue to play running games and begin to start being of aware of attacking and defending.

Coats

Please ensure your child has a coat in school as the weather has become changeable.

We hope you have a restful weekend, thank you for your continued support.
