Dear Parents and Carers,
We are very pleased to see how the children have responded to the Space theme. They have enjoyed learning facts about the solar system and exploring their great imagination in role-play and through artwork. We will continue this theme next week, focusing on what astronauts do in space and how they spend their time at the International Space Station. We will try to cover some of the questions the children asked after watching Helen Sharman’s video.
This week we will review the tricky digraphs and trigraphs children have recently learnt and apply them in their reading and writing. We have added a selection of activities with different ‘target sounds’ and skills for you to choose the ones that would benefit your child the most.
Teach Your Monster to Read
Some children have really enjoyed the games available at Teach Your Monster to Read. As the children move through the games the will progress from the early sounds (s, a, t, p, i, n) onto the digraphs and trigraphs learnt more recently.
At the moment this is a free resource to play on a PC and laptop, or you can download the Teach Your Monster to Read app from the app store on phones and tablets.
To play on the website, visit https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com/u/8092329
Pupils have individual logins (using their USO passwords) so we can see their progress. These have been shared via Tapestry.
In Maths, children will practice counting backwards from 10, arranging numbers in decreasing order, and comparing amounts using the correct vocabulary, fewer or more. Additionally, they will use a ten frame to develop number bond skills.
For handwriting, we are working with the zig-zag family. All these letters are formed with straight lines.
v x z
It is really important that children follow the arrows to form these letters in the correct way and establish good habits.
Group Teams Calls
Next week the Teams calls will be on the same days and times as last week, which we previously shared with you on Tapestry. Please let us know if you have any problems with the allocated sessions.
In preparation for this week’s Teams call, children need to draw a picture of what they are looking forward to doing when they return to school and be prepared to discuss it.
As usual, books will be ready for collection on Monday between 9.00am - 9.30am. There is no need to drop off the books on Friday.
We look forward to welcoming the children back at school.
