Week beginning 22.02.21

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of the half term we’d like to say thank you for your support with your child’s learning over recent weeks. We have enjoyed seeing the progress the children have been making with their home-learning and the children in school have made great progress too. We hope that things will be back to normal soon.

During the first week back after the half term break the children’s learning will be planned around the theme of Space.

In the first week back after half term we will be working on applying our phonic knowledge of single letters, digraphs and trigraphs to reading longer words.

This offers an opportunity to apply the knowledge children have acquired as well as a chance to recap any sounds they are unsure of.

Teach Your Monster to Read

Teach Your Monster to Read is a series of games which helps children to master the key first stages of reading. As the children move through the games the will progress from the early sounds (s, a, t, p, i, n) onto the digraphs and trigraphs learnt more recently.

It’s free to play on a PC and laptop, or you can download the Teach Your Monster to Read app from the app store on phones and tablets.

To play on the website, visit

Pupils have individual logins (using their USO passwords) so we can see their progress. These have been shared via Tapestry.

The next Maths focus will be on 3D shapes. The children will be identifying 3D shapes, investigating them and using them to make patterns.

It will be useful to have some 3D shapes from around the home for these activities (cans, boxes, cones, balls etc).

For handwriting, we are continuing with the ‘long ladder’ letter family. For these letters, the children need to start at the top, go down and then off in another direction.

It is really important that children follow the arrows to form these letters in the correct way and establish good habits

Home Learning – Group Teams Calls

We have decided to change the groups so that the children have greater social interaction see a wider variety of faces. We acknowledge that the make up of the groups will never be perfect for everyone but hope that seeing some different classmates will be positive.

We will share the new groups via Tapestry, calls will remain at 1.00pm and 1.30pm.

Communication via Teams

If your child needs support with their home learning, please give us a call at these times: 9.30am to 10.30am and 2.00pm and 3.00pm. We will be happy to support their learning or give parental support on how to approach an activity.

If you want to reach us via Teams, please use the Reception group, rather than contacting the teachers directly. This will ensure that one member of the team will be able to answer your query promptly.

Reading Books

Reading book drop off and collection arrangements remain the same.

Drop off - Fridays 9.00am - 9.30am

Collection - Mondays 9.00am - 9.30am (beginning Mon 22nd Feb)

After the half term break, please continue to work through the Home Learning Ideas – Week 7.

The links to the DfE Phonics lessons will be uploaded daily on the timetable once they become available.

Thank you for your continued support and wishing you a lovely half term break,
