Support at Home 2020-2021

Dear Year 4 Parents,

It has been lovely to welcome the children back to school and we have had a busy week settling everyone into the new routines.

Below is additional information on homework and the days when the children should come in wearing PE kits. Obviously, as the weather gets colder we would encourage the children to come in wearing navy or black tracksuit bottoms.

My USO logins and Abacus logins are the same (see your child's Home-School Book).  The children have been shown at school how to log on to My USO.  If children are unable to complete any computer-based homework at home, then we will happily provide time at school for children to access this on a school laptop.

My Maths logins will be stick into the children's diaries next week before the homework is set.

Other Home-School Activities:

  • Reading should be completed daily for at least 20 minutes.  The children should be encouraged to read from a wide selection of genres, using a dictionary to define any unknown words.  Reading focus should be comprehension, predicting what might happen next using clues from the text, answering text based questions finding the answers in the text, using skills of inference and deduction to discuss the story/characters and summarise what they have read.
  • Learn times tables to 12 x 12 and related division facts.
  • Handwriting daily for 5-10 minutes.
  • Spellings daily for 5 - 10 minutes.
  • Extra research around topics covered at school e.g. Look at maps of the UK and discuss them using a the points on a compass.

Many Thanks,

The Y4 Team
