Joining in Nursery
Children whose parents have made a successful application to the Nursery will be allocated a place in either the morning or afternoon session, commencing the Autumn Term after their third birthday. Children attend either five mornings (8.45am-11.45am) or five afternoons (12.30pm-3.30pm) each week, Monday to Friday. Children joining the Nursery in September usually visit the school on an Open Day in early July.
In line with good Early Years practice, our staff visit families at home before children start in the Nursery. Appointments are organised with parents to take place towards the end of the Summer Term before your child joins the Nursery. Children joining the Nursery have staggered start dates.
Each year we hold an information evening for new Nursery parents early in the Autumn Term. This is an opportunity to meet other parents and to hear more about the Foundation stage from the Nursery Teacher and the Foundation Stage staff.
Parents are should note that children attending the Nursery at Archdeacon Cambridge’s School will have to reapply for the Reception Class the following year. Applications will be handled on an equal basis with those applying to join the school for the first time.
Joining in Reception
Children whose parents have made a successful application to the Reception Class will join one of the two Reception Classes the Autumn Term after their 4th birthday.
Children joining our Reception Classes will attend full time in the Autumn Term. However, for the first half term parents may choose to take their child home at the end of the morning session, at 12 noon. In order to offer flexibility, parents may begin the term collecting their child at 12 noon and with one week’s written notice change arrangements with their child staying for the full school day. After half term it will be expected that all children remain for the whole school day.
In line with good Early Years practice, our staff make home visits to families of children who will be new to the school when they join the Reception Class before children start in the Reception Class. Appointments are organised with parents to take toward the end of the Summer Term. The Autumn Term for children in Reception Class begins one or two days after the start of term for children in Years 1-6.
