Charitable Activities

It is important that our children learn the positive effect their life choices can have on others in their immediate community and the wider world. In order to make these choices as relevant as possible to the children, we encourage whole school, small group and individual charitable work both at school and at home.

Please find below information of recent achievements in this area.

Zambia Day
On Friday 10th November we joined together as a school to launch and celebrate our new partnership with a charity called Brighter Futures Zambia. The children were placed in mixed age range “classes” and experienced a carousel of African activities that were on offer. They had the opportunity to contribute to a collage of Zambian animals, eat Goulabjamoun (sweet potato fritters – which nearly every child ate and loved!), participate in an African drumming session with specialist drumming teacher Storme Watson and learn about Zambian Geography and the Nyanja language. There was a buzz all around the school and so many smiles to be seen as the children travelled around the different classes chatting about their new experiences.

Over the next few months we are hoping to work with the charity to raise enough money to build a pre-school for 90 children in the village of Miyoba. Currently the children of this village attend two makeshift “schools”, one meets under a tree and the other in a church building. This week we have started selling Christmas tree decoration stars that are sewn by the women in Zambia. In the future we will work with School Council, the staff and the governors to think of other, creative fundraising ideas.
